As a gaming commissioner, you have the responsibility to ensure that gaming operations are conducted honestly and according to regulations. This three-day class will focus specifically on the most challenging aspects of a gaming commissioner’s job. We’ll explain issues such as the independence of the commission, the commission’s role in grievance hearings and appeals and its role in dealing with management.

We’ll examine the Colorado River Indian Tribe v. National Indian Gaming Commission decision regarding NIGC’s authority over Class III gaming, specifically the Minimum Internal Control Standards. We’ll also discuss different aspects of vendor licensing, including conducting background checks, levels of vendor licensing and working with large vs. small vendors. Through hands-on case studies, you’ll explore and solve real problems that commissioners face today.
