Reading Blueprints for Tribal Construction Professionals
Indian tribes and tribal organizations spend millions of dollars every year in unplanned construction costs. When items are missed in an estimate, general contractors put in a change order to properly complete projects, usually at a greater price than it would have been at the initial bid. Both improper estimating and unnecessary change orders on a project can add huge unforeseen costs and lengthy delays to projects in Indian Country. Many of these issues can be avoided through the careful and accurate reading of blueprints. The ability to read and interpret construction blueprints is a fundamental skill in construction. Participants in this class will learn to identify and describe types of plans; interpret, locate and identify symbols used for construction materials within blueprints; interpret, locate and identify construction materials, assemblies and methods used in various types of construction blueprints; identify and explain applicable codes, ordinances and administrative requirements for permits and inspections; and interpret and identify common elements of a working drawing. Attend this hands-on class and learn to identify common problems and shortcomings in any set of blueprints. Please click here to view the brochure. Topics that will be covered include:
